Ramadan Mubarak! Ramadan is a special time in the Middle East. However many executives don’t utilise their increased availability to reflect on their career opportunities, utilising their networking endeavours and circulating amongst other like-minded industry professionals and key decision makers alike. While immediate dividends may not be obtainable, the savvy business professional can use this to help lay the framework for future professional success. Changing Work Habits With an overall decrease in company production due to the shorter working days it is easy to think of Ramadan as a time when everything comes to a standstill. However, this is when you should be utilising your time to forge new professional relationships with like-minded industry professionals and key decision makers as there is more time for managers and executives to pursue facets of long-term planning and recruitment. They may be more receptive to informal meetings and discussions surrounding industry topics in which you can impress upon them your expertise and thought leadership. Summertime Festivities Many employees choose to take annual leave during Ramadan due to the decrease in working hours and the increase in temperature in the region. Vacationing offers the perfect opportunity for aspiring executives to interact with contacts in non-professional environments. They have the opportunity to engage in entertainment activities or social gatherings which are not normally available during the rest of the year. Individuals can forge stronger
social bonds and relationships, enhancing their ability to get an edge when future openings might arise. Ramadan Kareem!
